COOKINGBad planning, in everything can lead to disaster. Good, structured planning on the other hand, can be both cheaper quicker and more stress free. I know which one I would prefer. Kitchen design is a particularly stressful process and can go horribly wrong if not though through correctly.

Kitchen design is no longer just about the positioning of the different kitchen elements within a space. The cooker, appliances and eating areas for example are still important, but there are multiple factors to consider. Don’t think solely about appliances and kitchen utensils. Think about colour schemes, moods and how the space will work in a day to day setting. To get that perfect blend of form and function, that allows a cook to flourish, takes alot of consideration and intensive planning.

My kitchen, like many other peoples does not have excess room to add new units and features, you have to work with what you have got! An in order to successfully think about the design you need to answer a series of important questions. These questions revolve around who is going to be using the kitchen? Is the kitchen generally the a hive of activity in the morning? Do you sit down for a family meal in the evening? Do you have someone in the family who is going to be indulging in a great deal of baking? Do you like to hold dinner parties, or social events here?

Someone who is experienced with kitchen planning can be extremely beneficial here, you can search for kitchen planners online or do some sketches yourself and see how they turn out! If your budget is that of luxury, and you can afford pricey appliances, then most retailers will offer free planning advice as part of the package. They usually have CAD trained technicians who are experts in the field. One recommendation would be to always check reviews of the items and appliances before purchasing, they can be found online and could save you alot of money if they are notorious for their quality.

Get a second opinion before doing anything! When design kitchens you need to have a wider perspective on things, often working on just one project can put the ‘blinkers’ on. The usual caution needs to be taken when kitchen planning, that is applicable to all home improvements. You could also inquire about the potential value you could add to your home at an estate agents. This will ensure that any modifications you add to your kitchen will positively increase it value, should you wish to resell.
